Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus

Lessons in ChemistryLessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Narrated by: Miranda Raison with a great question and answer by Bonnie Garmus and Pandora Sykes, this was a great book about societal expectations of women in the 50s and 60s and how Elizabeth Zott with her "different" personality represents ALL women of that time that had hopes and dreams and the low expectations of society stopped them from achieving anything but headaches, gossip, unwanted negative attention, and lies. This story help me captive, there were a few pronunciation errors but that did not stop me from being totally enthralled by Elizabeth's world and her life with Calvin Evans and their time together resulting in a dog, a daughter, and much grief. I loved Harriet Sloane and really detested many of the Hastings employees with their evil, mean-spirited gossip which continued to follow Elizabeth Zott with her jobs and her life. But a satisfying resolution and the author chat at the end were really welcome. A must read!

I Want to Grow Hair, I Want to go to Grow Up, I Want to Go to Boise by Erma Bombeck

I Want to Grow Hair, I Want to Grow Up, I Want to Go to BoiseI Want to Grow Hair, I Want to Grow Up, I Want to Go to Boise by Erma Bombeck
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

My mom gave me this awesome book to read---how Erma Bombeck turned a humorous light on cancer through interviews with the children who shine through their challenges with cancer. She also takes on the women- Moms and the men-Dads and doctors and how cancer has affected them. A must read, lots of information but even more the strength and resilience of kids and their families fighting a disease, which still has no cure.

A December Bride (A Year of Weddings #1)A December Bride by Denise Hunter
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Will Layla and Seth forge a bond as they work toward separate goals? I loved Seth and his caring, deep belief in Layla’s business and rooted that Layla would trust Seth and maybe more? A novella romance I could not put down!

Immoral (Jonathan Stride, #1) by Brian Freeman

Immoral (Jonathan Stride, #1)Immoral by Brian Freeman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Awesomely read by Joe Barrett, this audiobook kept me listening. My first intro to Brian Freeman as a mystery author was with the Audible title, The Deep Deep Snow and being riveted from page one, I have decided to read all his mysteries. Contrary to some reviews I liked the sexual exploits, it made the detectives lives deeper, more human and believable. I loved Jonathan Stride and am so glad there is a series about him! I will be binge reading those books and I see he has another series which I want to read as well. I liked learning about the world of Duluth and Las Vegas as seen through Stride's eyes. The characterizations and plot kept this mystery lover wading into the crime, the courtroom drama and the fall out. Highly recommended!

A Conjuring of Light (Shades of Magic #3) by VE Schwab

A Conjuring of Light (Shades of Magic, #3)A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Oh boy did I LOVE this 3rd and final book in the Shades of Magic Series!!! Listening to Michael Kramer and Kate narrating this adventure filled tale of magic, evil, and the fates of Red London, White London and Grey London. I loved Schwab's characters, her plot, her worlds! If I could have sat for 16 hours and listened to this book, I would have! It was that GOOD!!! A highly recommended adult series with lots of horror, struggles between good & evil, different kinds of magic and magicians, betrayal and fights in kingdoms and on the seas. I could not get enough & I Loved the ending (that does not always happen and I hate that) I like this series so much I am going to jump into her YA series soon, This Savage Song!

We Were LiarsWe Were Liars by E. Lockhart
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received this ARC this winter at ALA in Philadelphia. In this compelling novel, Cady may be rich and care-free but she also has so much else going on. Her father leaves them and she has an accident (Summer 15) that causes her to be wracked with horrible migraines and memory issues. Annually, Cady summers with her extended family on an island her grandfather owns with three sprawling houses. She is best friends with her cousin Mirren, Johnny, and Gat during these summers. They don’t keep in contact during the year, but spend their summers as the Liars, leaving trouble in their wake. If you like lies, secrets, forbidden love, you must read this book!
