Beautiful Day by Elin Hilderbrand

Beautiful DayBeautiful Day by Elin Hilderbrand
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved this story of a family wedding on Nantucket- the daughters follow their dead mother's notebook of what Jenna's wedding should entail, their father, Doug, remarried is still in love with Beth who died of cancer quickly over 7 months. What should be a happy weekend is so much more than that with many disagreements, lies, and drama. I could not stop turning the pages (I am like this with all Elin's books) such a great read, beautiful setting, characters you want to throttle, characters that make you laugh, and a great plot. A great summer read!

Golden Girl by Elin Hilderbrand

Golden GirlGolden Girl by Elin Hilderbrand
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved this latest book from Elin Hilderbrand and she did a great job drawing me in---loved the Martha Person who guides Vivi, loved the story line of Vivi and Brett Caspian, Willa and Rip, and the trials and grief of her children. I could not stop turning the pages and loved the chapters with the different voices of the characters, Nantucket, & the police chief. The growth of the many characters, both good and not so good, were well drawn---Leo and Marissa (she is such a jealous racist), Carson and her antics, PJ and Savannah, Amy and Dennis, and always I enjoyed Vivi but the one thing I did not really like or understand about her was the dissolving of her marriage. I could have used more of Vivi's insight because I definitely got PJ's again and again. The beauty of Nantucket, the food, the water, the restaurants all held me captive and can't wait til the next book.

The Castaways by Elin Hilderbrand

The CastawaysThe Castaways by Elin Hilderbrand
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

When Greg and Tess McAvoy sail off to celebrate their 12th wedding anniversary, little do their friends know that danger and death will come calling to Nantucket and the group of friends known as The Castaways. As the friends find out about Tess and Greg's death; the grief overwhelms and cripples Deidre, Addison, and Andrea while their spouses are helpless. As the story progresses the reader finds out more and more about this close knit group of friends who take trips together, fall in love with each other and sleep with each other. A great beach read; I could not stop turning the pages.

Barefoot by Elin Hilderbrand

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Vickie, Brenda, and Melanie come to Nantucket with problems, children and endeavor to enjoy the sun and beauty of Nantucket away from the stark reality that caused them to flee. Vickie and Brenda are sisters that inherited the small cottage (Vickie has 2 kids and lung cancer while Brenda is a disgraced professor who had an affair with a student), Melanie is Vickie's friend who runs from a husband who is carrying on an affair. As they struggle, Josh Flynn, longtime Nantucket resident becomes their babysitter, lifeline, and so much more to each of the women. I just loved everything about Josh; he was empathetic, kind, happy, friendly and what Vickie's boys needed as they went to the beach each day, made friends, and became grounded with Josh's special brand of babysitting. I could not stop turning the pages, loved this story!!!

The Matchmaker by Elin Hilderbrand

The MatchmakerThe Matchmaker by Elin Hilderbrand
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Loved this book, the characters Dabney, Alice, Box, Clen, Riley and Nina!!! Thank you to Alicia my daughter-in-law for sharing this book, I fell in love with Elin H after I read the 2 books in the Paradise series. My daughter and Alicia read all of Elin's book and now I am beginning to read ALL her books too! My heart loved Nantucket and Dabney's family and world! She was a strong complicated woman in love with Clen (a traveling journalist a world away) even while married to Box. The other side stories of the successful matches Dabney made, and her daughter Alice's arrival one summer and all that that entails, held me captive, I could not stop turning the pages, such a great summer beach read but also filled with family drama, relationship conflict, and love of Nanticket!
