The Innocent (Will Robie, #1) by David Baldacci

The Innocent (Will Robie, #1)The Innocent by David Baldacci
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a first book in the Will Robie series and I can't wait to read more about this assassin. I loved all the John Puller books so I am sure I will enjoy Will Robie----he is isolated, great at his trade, hardly ever makes mistakes because that could mean death. But in this book---as he goes to his next target, he finds the target has a child in bed with her and Will will not shoot her, but what happens is that a sharp shooter kills her and her son with one shot and now Will is being hunted down. There is another story he becomes involved with---a 14 year old girl and she is a foster child---tough but all alone and she and Will become partners and I could not stop turning the pages!!! Awesome, suspenseful read!

Marathon (Jonathan Stride #8) by Brian Freeman

Marathon (Jonathan Stride #8)Marathon by Brian Freeman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Number 8 in this series kept me reading with the thrilling plot, old beloved characters and new good/bad characters! Stride is now married to Serena, YAY!!! Maggie has a boyfriend YAY!!! Cat enters a new time in her life all the while the Duluth Marathon is destroyed by a bomber; according to Dawn Basch #noexceptions, who whips the masses into believing a terrorist is responsible and then when Michael M tweets out the wrong bomber's picture, OMG, hold on for a gripping, sad, sometime hateful plot that kept the detectives chasing leads and forming their own hypothesis; I could not put this book down! Highly recommended!

Nevernight (The Nevernight Chronicle #1) by Jay Kristoff

Nevernight (The Nevernight Chronicle, #1)Nevernight by Jay Kristoff
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I liked this 1st in the series for many reasons but I gave it a 4 because of the awfulness of the Red Church higher ups who time and again threatened the Acolytes in such a heinous manner I almost put this book down. But I kept reading because I really rooted for Mia Corvere and not her wanting to exact justice for her family but in spite of everything she really tries to be a good person & not a STONE COLD KILLER!!! I couldn't stomache Mother Drusilla, Jeesamine, Shahiid Mouser, Shahiid Solis, Weaver Marielle, and her brother, Speaker Adonai ---it seemed messed up to be this awful... & even Darkling Cassius did not help her understand who she was and they were both Darklings!!!Thank God for Naev and Tric and Lottie, Mr. Kindly. I am going to keep reading but I reserve the right to put this series down if it continues in the evil vein. I want to believe kick ass Mia will find true friendship, hope and a degree of happiness as a killer.

Dark Triumph (His Fair Assassin #2) by Robin LaFevers

Dark Triumph (His Fair Assassin, #2)Dark Triumph by Robin LaFevers
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really really loved Sybella, the plot twists, her revulsion within herself about so many things (being a member of the D'Albret family) but for as low as she got (she would have been willing to kill/die herself) she always HOPED for a better life as a person and Mortain's Assassin. This 2nd book continued the Anne of Brittany story and the machinations of D'Albret to woo Anne, then probably kill her, etc - because this is how he works. He is such a scheming lowlife but he uses fear, punishment and yes, even death (he likes to hurt people) to get what he wants regardless. But Sybella continues where Ismae left off in the first book, as a spy and assassin, for Mortain and the abbess (I really can't stand her and want her gone by the 3rd book!!!) There was so much angst because Sybella's family life is truly horrific but it is her chance of seeing the Beast of Waroch across the battlefield that changes her life and oh did I love his character and how his strength and courage and sheer goodness begin to effect hope and love into her life. Such a great story, looking forward to the last book in the series, already got it from the library! Thank you to #yearofya for challenging me to read this most awesome series!!!!

Grave Mercy (His Fair Assassin #1) by Robin LaFevers

Grave Mercy (His Fair Assassin, #1)Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I read this series as part of #yearofYA twitter chat at 8PM EST Tuesday 1/30/18, our January topic is Female Fantasy Phenoms and oh did I love it!!! Ismae is persecuted as a child into adulthood because she is the spawn of the God of Death. Her father beats her and then her pig farmer husband beats her and as he runs in fear when he sees her scar (given to her at birth) Ismae is saved by a convent of nuns who train her in the art of seduction and murder (all the many ways men can be killed and poisoned) as the God of Death, Mortain decrees (the nuns' visions from Mortain or the mark (stain) on the skin decreeing death. During a time of much trouble in Brittany, there is treachery afoot and Ismae falls headlong into intrigue, poison, and murder. What she does not count on is running into problems of many kinds as she poses as mistress to Gavriel Duval (bastard son of royalty) which has her questioning herself, the nuns, and many evil forces who will stop at nothing to ensnare the young duchess into political treachery and marriages with strings. I loved Ismae and Duval- they were worthy opponents; honest, funny, and driven to ensure the safety of those they are to protect. The bad guys were deliciously evil especially Madame Dinan, her half brother D'Albret, and Cunard. The world building was skillful and the plot was gripping, and chilling and I LOVED it. I already have Dark Triumph on hold at the library; highly recommended! So sorry it took me so long to read this thriller!!!

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1)Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

OMG!!! Loved this first book by Sarah J. Maas! I was rooted to my kindle and the drama that ensued as assassin Celaena Sardothien fights to win her freedom as the King's Champion Assassin is gripping. I hated the King, loved Chaol, Prince Dorian, and the visiting Princess Nehemia. There is magic, supernatural beings, evil, lying, romance---all the elements put together PERFECTLY by Sarah J. Maas. Celaena is a strong female protagonist who is confident of her assassin abilities but she also must hide her true identity from all but a few in the castle. Her few meetings with the king were torture for me because Celaena is truly terrified of the King and when she is around him, she is not the hero we know she is. The king has evil intentions and I can't wait to see his demise...hopefully in Book 2! I would definitely call this a crossover book/series- adults will love the action, suspense and adventure, just like teens.
