Runaways, Vol. 4: But You Can't Hide by Rainbow Rowell

Runaways, Vol. 4: But You Can't HideRunaways, Vol. 4: But You Can't Hide by Rainbow Rowell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The runaways are having some identity problems due to the stress they have been dealing with. Also the subplot with the Giborrem continues and Victor and Chase try to revive the Doombot. A great series, a new illustrator, and a great plot!

Runaways, Vol. 3: That Was YesterdayRunaways, Vol. 3: That Was Yesterday by Rainbow Rowell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Love this 3rd book in the Runaways, That Was Yesterday, as Alex returns from the dead, to save the Runaways who don't trust him from the Gibborem who demand a human sacrifice. Victor and Gert become something, what will Chase think? And Nico and Karolina are falling for each other. Lots of other crazy stuff going on, I could not stop turning the pages! On to the 4th book!

Shades of Magic Vol. 1 The Steel Prince by V. E. Schwab

Shades of Magic Vol. 1: The Steel PrinceShades of Magic Vol. 1: The Steel Prince by V.E. Schwab
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I LOVED this comic which expands and deals with lesser characters from the Shades of Magic books. In this Maxim Maresh and his father are major characters and also Tieren, Isra and Arisa. For a slim volume this book packed a punch as crown prince Maxim and Isra battle masked Arisa, the evil Pirate Queen who kills everyone and anyone in a vicious, horrible way. I will be reading all these new comics!!!

Under the Moon: A Catwoman Tale by Lauren Myracle

Under The Moon: A Catwoman TaleUnder The Moon: A Catwoman Tale by Lauren Myracle
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Thank you to NetGalley and DC Entertainment and DC Ink for the advance reader copy Under the Moon: A Catwoman Tale by, Lauren Myracle, in exchange for an honest review. I loved Lauren Myracle’s take on Catwoman’s backstory. Selena is a strong female teen protagonist who is quick to protect but never to trust. Life has dealt her with a mother who has many abusive boyfriends, the latest being Dernell. As Selena continues to become sick Dernell’s target, she gets no help from her mother; only criticism. Dernell’s constant punishment of locking her in a closet, helps Selena become one with the darkness and when she can’t take life under his sicko power trip; Selena runs away and becomes a teen who roams the streets, begins to hone her fighting, and finally joins a group that is planning a daring heist. For a kickass anti-heroine who takes prisoners, YA fans will fall into Myracle’s story and Goodhart's perfect dark illustrations with dark blue, black and minimal white lines that does justice to comics; a must read!

Bruno is still Kamala's best friend but since she spurned his love because she is just too busy --- he has moved on and I for one like Mike, his girlfriend! Her Brother has fallen in love and is getting married. Kamala is too busy in life, school, family, etc.---when she recruits Bruno to make "more" Kamala's---it backfires. What will happen to Ms Marvel, Kamala and keeping friends but also saving the world. I loved the addition of the superheroes, I just hope Kamala (Ms Marvel) asks for their help and does not try to do it alone!

Ms. Marvel Vol. 4 Last Days by G. Willow Wilson and Adrian Alphona

Ms. Marvel, Vol. 4: Last DaysMs. Marvel, Vol. 4: Last Days by G. Willow Wilson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love this comic book series, Last Days is a bit more edgy than the first 3 because Kamala really believes it is the end of the world, the superheroes will not be able to overthrow Lineage, and her brother has been kidnapped and a gas has given him unnatural powers. Love this series!!!

The Agony House by Cherie Priest

The Agony HouseThe Agony House by Cherie Priest
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Just as I loved Cherie Priest's book, I Am Princess X, The Agony House was such a great read-part horror, part mystery, containing graphic novel portions and blue font for texting each other and hearing what the ghosts have to say. Denise, her mom and stepdad, have returned to New Orleans after fleeing during Katrina (losing her father and grandmother) and move into a haunted house Denise renames as Agony House. I just loved the fear Priest writes into this story and the characters. Denise makes new friends who school her in what it is like to still be a native in New Orleans, and Denise's observations of the many shortcomings of this home and their venture to make it a bed n breakfast, endows the reader with the "real" situation of what Denise has walked into - as she explores, listens to the stories about ghosts, and unearths a comic with a kick ass female heroine---readers will not be able to stop turning the pages. I loved the comic book - Lucida Might Denise finds and as it raises lots of questions, Denise and her friends search for clues, answers, anything to explain why this house has become hazardous---is someone trying to scare them away, tell them something? Teens will love the blending of novel and comics, Priest is the queen of this format, I want more!!!

Mighty Jack and the Goblin King (Mighty Jack #2) by Ben Hatke

Mighty Jack and the Goblin King (Mighty Jack, #2)Mighty Jack and the Goblin King by Ben Hatke
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Thank you to NetGalley and First Second Books for the ARC, Mighty Jack and the Goblin King by Ben Hatke. What a spellbinding read! Ben Hatke has done it again with a super charged graphic novel middle school and teen readers will totally enjoy. Mighty Jack and the Goblin King continues expanding the fairy tale begun in the first comic, Mighty Jack, with bright, electric illustrations crafting an action filled horror adventure story with Jack and Lilly with their swords and daring racing to save Maddy, with help from Phelix and goblins. Highly recommended for those who love fantasy, building tension, thrilling plot twists and fierce characters.
