The House of Flame and Shadow (Crescent City, #3) by Sarah J. Maas

House of Flame and Shadow (Crescent City, #3)House of Flame and Shadow by Sarah J. Maas
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Another winner from Sarah J. Maas! I have so enjoyed the Crescent series and this 3rd book is just awesome! At 900+ pages I finished in 3 days rooting for Bryce Quindlen & Hunt Althazar!
Lidia & Ruhn were kick ass as well. The plot, the settings, the world building, and the characters all made this a book I could not put down. Total suspense with the torture of Hunt & his friends filled me with horror. But what I enjoyed most was Bryce's certainty that she could figure things out. A must read!

I continue to totally enjoy the City Spies series! This mystery thriller of kids solving crimes has the globe hopping spies protecting a young environmentalist from Europe to New York City. What I continue to love is each characters' specialty in solving crimes, working with each other and fooling adults to get results. A must read!

Iron Flame (Empyrean, #2) by Rebecca Yarros

Iron Flame (The Empyrean, #2)Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

OMG did I love both Fourth Wing and Iron Flame!!! I became thoroughly invested in Violet and Xaden's story because after all they are the main focus in both books besides all the other tings going on in the plot. Without revealing anything about the ending; I am a reader who really enjoys redemptive endings. Xaden and Violet have had many ups and downs in their relationship (& in their lives)---I beg Rebecca Yarros to really think about the 3rd book in the series and Violet & Xaden's love. Please write a redemptive book that gives hope...Yes, these books were violent, yes there are many evil characters, but write some kind of magic that will give Violet & Xaden a lasting relationship with their dragons that is not about killing but finding the truth.

Fourth Wing (The Empyrean, #1) by Rebecca Yarros

Fourth Wing (The Empyrean, #1)Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Thank you to Donna Gola for her enthusiastic recommendation of this book! I could not stop reading about Violet's world, the dragons, her friends/riders (enemies too) in the Fourth Wing. Yarros did a wonderful world building, descriptions of Basgiath War College and the trials Violet & the other cadets must endure (many die) to stay alive and become riders. Violet is the daughter of the Commander so she already has a strike against her- she has brittle bones & is considered "frail" so why would her mother force her to become a rider rather than a scribe? This book will grab you from page 1, it is a very satisfying must read---and did I almost forgot about ruthless handsome Xaden Riosen, who also hates her? Get comfy and start reading this scintillating fantasy of dragons, lies, love, and friendship!

A Soul of Ash and Blood (Blood and Ash, #5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

A Soul of Ash and Blood (Blood and Ash, #5)A Soul of Ash and Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Another totally awesome book in the Blood and Ash series; victorious Poppy, Cas & Kieran make their way to safety but quickly Cas & Kieran realize something is not right---Poppy's skin is freezing then she drops into a deep slumber...there is a very real possibility that if and when Poppy wakes up she will not remember anything & that means her husband and love, Cas and Kieran. It has been suggested that Cas talk to her as Poppy sleeps & talk he does; I could not stop turning the pages as Cas recalls to Poppy and Kieran their history, romance, and linked hearts. Totally awesome read.

Finally Seen by Kelly Yang

Finally SeenFinally Seen by Kelly Yang
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

When Lina Gao leaves her grandmother in China to finally live with her parents and little sister who went to America 5 years ago, Lina is hit with many things---this new country is strange, her family did not tell her the truth about their life in America, they may lose their home, their father works tirelessly for an organic farmer who is harsh and merciless and this causes fights between her parents. As Lina struggles in school, she meets friends and foes. I really liked the teachers who supported Lina and helped her find her voice. I also loved how Lina sees her family and is able to finally be seen by her mother, father and sister. A must read!

Fall of Wrath and Ruin (Awakening, #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Fall of Ruin and Wrath (Awakening, #1)Fall of Ruin and Wrath by Jennifer L. Armentrout
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I absolutely loved this 1st book in the Awakening series! Lis is a mortal, lowborn Lis is an orphan who has known starvation, abuse and with her friend, Grady they stick together. Lis knows the future just by touching someone, so she doesn't really do that. She saves Grady and her future when she becomes the paramour of the baron of Archwood who is a celestia (mortal descended from the joining of a lowborn) and a Hyhborn (created from the earth) ; they have been living a good life until one night her intuition bades her go out of the castle not knowing what she will find. In the barn, there is a man with blood all over him and stakes pinning him down. What Lis does not know is that she is rescuing and saving Prince Thorn. There is wonderful world building, I loved the chemistry between Lis & Thorn and as the mysteries grow---the suspense is so gripping I read this book in 2 days!!! I can't wait for the 2nd book!!!

Immortal Longings (Flesh and False Gods #1)Immortal Longings by Chloe Gong
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A retelling of Antony and Cleopatra, also like Hunger Games, I loved the story of Calla and Anton, not so much August. I also liked the jumping of bodies, that made me want to sail through this lucious book of daring, danger, and backstabbing. Can't wait for #2!!!

City of the Dead (City Spies, Book 4) by James Ponti

City of the Dead (City Spies Book 4)City of the Dead by James Ponti
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

this 4th in the City Spies Book was so awesome with the team inching ever closer to Clementine but Mother's son now becomes a part of the team (?!?), with their latest mission taking place in the City of the Dead in Egypt. I love how they work together but are still individuals with quirks, strengths, and allegiance to one another!

Her Deadly Game by Robert Dugoni

Her Deadly GameHer Deadly Game by Robert Dugoni
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

OMG, this latest Robert Dugoni detective and courtroom mystery was so suspenseful! I loved Keera Duggan, her dysfunctional family which has been forever altered due to her father's life long alcoholism. Keera catches a case where she represents the husband who is accused of killing his wife. I loved the way Dugoni unfolded the story through the chess game, the mysterious Mr. Worth who leads her to many people who grew up/knew the accused who is a multi-millionaire investment advisor, her father's missteps, and her ambition to show up the prosecutor. It definitely was like a game of chess with each move calculated keeping the reader on pins and needles. You never meet the murdered wife, but the title, Her Deadly Game was perfect in so many ways. Readers will enjoy wading into this juicy mystery. An awesome crime thriller!

A Light in the Flame (Flesh and Fire, #2)A Light in the Flame by Jennifer L. Armentrout
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This 2nd in the Flesh and Fire series was scorching hot! I fell in love with Nyktos & Sera AGAIN as they navigate their friendship, their passion (Nyktos can't love) and their staunch support of each other and their kingdom(s) as this fantasy unfolds. As always, the characters, the plot, and the setting had me turning those pages, I can't wait for the 3rd book! Highly recommended!

Amari and the Great Game (Supernatural Investigations, #2) by B.B. Alston

Amari and the Great Game (Supernatural Investigations, #2)Amari and the Great Game by B.B. Alston
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I did not LIKE this ending at all! I kept turning the pages but was so overwhelmed and chagrined with the evil that happened in this WHOLE book; I think B.B. Alston needs to re-think Book 3 if he is going to once again shatter the reader time and time again (like he does to Amari throughout this book!!!) with threatening war, challenges that are meant to sink, dangers that are motivated by the WORST bad characters, and finally decisions that work against the characters and plot---too too bleak---give the reader a MORE POSITIVE story in Book 3, this reader begs you...

The Final Gambit (The Inheritance Games, #3) by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

The Final Gambit (The Inheritance Games, #3)The Final Gambit by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I LOVED every single book in this series! It was addicting, satisfying and so suspenseful with all the twists and turns, games and lies, with Avery being challenged at every turn---with security, snooping journalists (online and around town) and as the GAME ratchets up, there are many characters who may be trying to torpedo Avery's investigations. I love all the Hawthorne brothers, and the friends/Hawthorne characters (head of security and her lawyer) who unite to help Avery try to figure out the final puzzle before she turns 18, time ticks away and with each page turned the suspense was spine tingling! A great series to savor and read!

The Silent Sisters (Charles Jenkins, #3) by Robert Dugoni

The Silent Sisters (Charles Jenkins, #3)The Silent Sisters by Robert Dugoni
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Robert Dugoni has done it again! I could not put down this Charles Jenkins novel; taking place mostly in Russia Jenkins has been called up to remove the final 2 sisters of the Seven sisters who are American spies deeply embedded in Russia. Although once Jenkins arrives in Russia other forces are at work--he tries to help a very drunk prostitute from a bully's fists and it goes down hill from there. The bully is the son of the Mafia queen and it looks as if Jenkins has killed him!!! So begins a cat and mouse chase, I loved the suspense, the many costumes, the Inspector who is to retire imminently but wants his record of solving cases to remain spotless. Jenkins is a character I have loved/enjoyed from the beginning---he is humorous, caring, lethal, honest, and the BEST at what he does. He is in tip-top shape but this case will test him in many ways, foremost in his mind to get home in one piece to his family. A must read, a great series!

There are clues deliberately left and a wristwatch is set at a particular hour. They are hired to defend a man when all of these murders begin to happen. Can they be tied to their case? I could not stop turning the pages & I love these 2 characters! Moving on to the 3rd book in the series!

The War of Two Queens (Blood and Ash, #4) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

The War of Two Queens (Blood And Ash, #4)The War of Two Queens by Jennifer L. Armentrout
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This 4th in the Blood and Ash series has Poppy and her team (Cas, Kieran, etc) was tough for me to read at times. We live in such a chaotic world now and the separation of Poppy and Casteel really upset me. Her evil mother made me sick and made me lose hope...which normally JLA's book do not do, but Cas' time in prison was entirely TOO LONG...many times I wanted to put this book down, but I do LOVE JLA's books so much so I continued. I love the interactions between Cas and Poppy, the draken, the wolves! I love the way the characters give their all for the good of the Kingdom and am looking forward to the next book because the foretellings, the destruction, the realms all have to be answered.
