The Mystery Guest (Molly the Maid, #2) by Nita Prose

The Mystery Guest (Molly the Maid, #2)The Mystery Guest by Nita Prose
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The 2nd of the Molly the Maid series has Molly's love away visiting his family, when a mystery writer event at her hotel goes wildly wrong. Once again the police think Molly is involved & as Molly tries to help the new maid in training, Molly realizes she must dig deeper---into the past; because she & Gran worked for Mr. Grimthorpe, the writer when she was a child. There is a Present & a Past chapter as Molly delves into the past and the why, who, and what of Grimthorpe and his life. Another winner, Molly and Mr. Preston are my favorites, but I really did miss her love interest, looking forward to his return in a 3rd book:)

One Last Kill (Tracy Crosswhite, #10)One Last Kill by Robert Dugoni
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

OMG I loved this 10th book in the Tracy Crosswhite series! As Tracy is tasked with solving an ages old murder that has darkened the police image, she is paired with Johnny Nolasco who was her boss and enemy. What they find as the investigate is awful, kept me turning the pages & rooting for Tracy and her honest cop friends to solve the serial killer murders!

But now that Archer has found his calling as a private eye, danger is ever present and that really scares Liberty. As Archer is hired by someone, she is soon missing and as he uncovers more and more in 1950s Hollywood and Los Angeles. He enlists the help of his mentor, Willie Dash. I loved everything about this story but the ending.

Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson

Black CakeBlack Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is our Albright College Zoom Book Club read for April and oh did I love this audiobook version, Narrated by: Lynnette R. Freeman, Simone Mcintyre!!! There was so much I loved about this book---family problems, secrets causing mysteries, and the different settings with the beauty, culture, food and angst.

Many thanks to Casey Ciocca for lending me this book! It is also going to be our Albright College Zoom Book Club for April. This debut is a must read! The book starts with a huge mystery that is uncovered very slowly, rocking Bennie & Byron's world and everything they knew and believed. This book awesomely covers many years, many different characters, and many different plots yet Wilkerson weaves them seamlessly. The mysteries and betrayals as they are uncovered are mind altering---what will happen to Benny & Byron plus all the other characters that will be affected by the truth----too long in coming. Will Byron & Benny survive the audiotape their mother dictated before her death. A must read!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a great suspenseful mystery! I am so enjoying this series--Michelle and Sean work so well together; it is a great partnership. There is a kidnapping that affects the first family and the first lady calls Sean into help return her niece to her family. There is an ages old conspiracy that has left a family devastated and an old man decides on justice. I could not stop turning the pages as lies, murders, and conspiracies multiply and through their own issues Michelle and Sean work with others to save this little girl. A must read!

Open and Shut (Andy Carpenter, #1) by David Rosenfelt

Open and Shut (Andy Carpenter #1)Open and Shut by David Rosenfelt
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved this 1st book in the Andy Carpenter series, although I read the 2nd book, First Degree first in the series and my sister passed along the very first David Rosenfelt book, The 12 Dogs of Christmas and I was instantly smitten----I have to read all of Rosenfelt's books 1- they are funny, 2- they are mysteries, 3 they have dogs in them!!!, and 4 Andy Carpenter is a hoot! This first book sets up Andy's personality as a defense lawyer with his wisecracks to the reader (he loves sports, hates exercise, loves Tara, his golden retriever). Suddenly Andy's father an ex DA dies in front of him, a firestorm happens and Andy is left to pick up the pieces---number one, why did his father leave him $22 million dollars? Rosenfelt had me turning those pages- there was suspense, humor, and a deep love for dogs----I was hooked! I have been recommending this to all my friends because we love dogs and mysteries; I can't wait to read the 3rd book next, Bury the Lead!

The Guilty (Will Robie, #4) by David Baldacci

The Guilty (Will Robie, #4)The Guilty by David Baldacci
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This 4th book in the Will Robie series was very enjoyable--Will ran from his Mississippi and his father's beatings and never looked back. Now Will is having trouble; a bad shoot cripples Will's confidence---on his next job he hallucinates and now the Blue Man is asking Will to take a leave ---just as this happens, his father is arrested for murder---should Will return to his father? The twists and turns were so suspenseful and I was glad when Jessica Reel finally joined forces with him again. A totally exciting read! I will be totally upset when this series ends, I love Will; he is such a great character!

The Good Turn (Cormac Reilly, #3) by Dervla McTiernan

The Good Turn (Cormac Reilly, #3)The Good Turn by Dervla McTiernan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I do not want this series to end!!! I love Cormac Reilly and Peter Fisher! I hope Dervla McTiernan continues with the Cormac or makes a Peter and Carrie spin off. The police corruption in this book really kept me turning the pages, the murders/deaths of seniors, the drug busts and the horror that resulted was documented perfectly by McTiernan, the suspense was relentless and I could not stop listening to this audiobook awesomely narrated by Aoife McMahon.

As Good As Dead (A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, #3) by Holly Jackson

As Good As Dead (A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, #3)As Good As Dead by Holly Jackson
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

I was so so looking forward to this 3rd book in Holly Jackson's A Good Girl's Guide to Murder and the only thing I can say that I continued to love was the team of narrators who did a flawless rendering of this otherwise disappointing book. As I began to listen, I knew Pip was in some trouble because she kept repeating and repeating and repeating---so imagine a whole book of her inner monologue repeating and repeating and repeating!!! I knew all the stuff she kept repeating because I listened to ALL the books, but the fact that Pip did not seek help except through popping pills was a letdown. She was such a strong female character, I knew she could expose the DT Killer but once again and throughout this book, she did not trust the police, she did not confide in her family, and she went off on practically everything---she still had meticulous knowledge but she let her PTSD from the 2nd book drown her and this affected her confidence which the reader heard over and over again with her inner monologues. I listened to the end and was not happy at all with her decisions and how she was miserable and counting days and trying to convince herself (and the reader) she made the right choices to protect them. Come on, the Pip I knew had an arsenal of evidence and facts to turn the case around...instead she goes crazy, makes her friends complicit and then casts them off in the name of protecting them. The Pip I knew could have figured out a different way to convince the police, yet she did not---she takes one comment from the lead policeman and allows that to torpedo what she could have easily proved---but she goes back to the 1st and 2nd books and how the police would not listen to her (mind you- she only shares with Ravi, not her family and friends) I felt Pip kept me hostage the whole book and I did not like it one bit.

I loved this new series by Lisa Scottoline and Bennie, Mary and all the others in the all female law firm were kick ass protagonists. Mary becomes partner in the law firm, gets engaged and takes on a new case with a 13 yr old genius hiring her, convinced Lonnie Stall has been put in prison unjustly for killing her sister. I could not put down this mystery and look forward to reading more about the Rosato & DiNunzio law firm!

When Adam verifies the awful facts and confronts Corinne, she does the unthinkable and flees, telling Adam she will make it right and be back in a few days. The Coldest Case: A Black Book Audio Drama by James Patterson

The Coldest CaseThe Coldest Case by James Patterson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is my first audiobook by James Patterson about Detective Billy Harney (father and twin sister are police too) narrated by: Aaron Paul , Krysten Ritter , Nathalie Emmanuel , Beau Bridges , and a full cast, I loved the characters as the knuckle bearing story of Harney's investigation of a drug ring which involved in addition to police work, the use of social media, technology, and gaming. The only problem I had with the audiobook was the background sounds many times overwhelmed the narration by being too loud or too long. But I loved the conspiracies which involve those with power and money and even police corruption. A taut, mesmerizing audiobook!

The Crooked Street (Frost Easton, #3) by Brian Freeman

The Crooked Street (Frost Easton #3)The Crooked Street by Brian Freeman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved this book until the ending, I love series and there are many times the endings are cliff hangers, both good and bad, but this one was bad and upsetting and annoying! That is the end of what I am going to say about the ending because I loved the rest of the book and will not give a bad review, but I am definitely going to write to Brian Freeman. So, Frost is taken back when old friend (but not a friend for years) Denny bangs on his door near death and utters one word, Lombard. This begins a cat and mouse thriller where Frost encounters many problems. First and foremost is that a PI tells/convinces him this is just one murder among many that has a red snake spray painted (looking like the crooked Lombard Street in San Francisco) near the murder site. When Frost begins investigating there is another police man, Trent Gorham, who has been investigating the murders but does not believe the snake and PI investigations. As Frost begins to chase down leads and read the jackets of the other murders he begins to see/believe he cannot trust anyone, both on the force and in his daily life, except Herb his 70 yr old best friend (love him). I read this book in a day, it was thrilling, with anxiety the whole book through as Frost goes deeper and deeper into the lies, intrigue in search of the truth. I love Frost but I did not like that he was not taking care of himself---he was really getting beaten up, not going to the hospital and working without steam and taking care of himself--this is a recipe for disaster so I hope this gets resolved very quickly in the next novel because unfortunately nasty Lombard is insidious...and the cases do not get solved in this book.

The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley

The Hunting PartyThe Hunting Party by Lucy Foley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Narrated by Gary Furlong , Elle Newlands , Morag Sims , Imogen Church , Moira Quirk a friend recommended this book after I had read The Guest List. I did not enjoy this audiobook, I am not sure if I would have liked it any better reading it. Miranda was such an awful character and unreliable narrator that it diminished this mystery for me. A group of best friends from college rent a hidden away hunting lodge for a New Year's celebration of their friendship. Characters narrate present day and their times in university and the other characters' narration are of Heather and Doug (the hostess and scout of the lodge) and the pasts they fled from. Lots of psychological intrigue and guessing!

The Voice Inside (Frost Eaton, #2) by Brian Freeman

The Voice Inside (Frost Easton, #2)The Voice Inside by Brian Freeman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This 2nd book in the Frost Easton series was riveting; the reader learns more about the murder of his sister Katie since the murderer is let out of prison because Frost's boss planted evidence. Now it is a race against time to get this killer back in jail before he murders again. Read this in 1 day too because I could not put it down!!! How the women were targeted, how Katie was murdered and the sick brain of the murderer kept this thriller in my hands! A must read, now I am on to the final book in this must read series!

The Night Bird (Frost Easton, #1) by Brian Freeman

The Night Bird (Frost Easton, #1)The Night Bird by Brian Freeman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love Brian Freeman mysteries and this series does not disappoint! Frost Easton is an introverted good boy cop who doesn't fraternize with this co-workers. He is devastated by the murder of his sister Katie and this spurred him to go from lawyer to police detective. The premise for this 1st book in the Frost Easton series is that women are dying and it can be traced back to psychotic episodes which leads him to Dr Francesca Stein who helps her patients forget horrible memories by replacing them with new memories, thus the old horrible memories are vanquished, BUT are they really? I could not stop turning the pages as Frost chases leads to find out who is responsible and why? A stunner, taut psychological suspense had me finish this book in one day and I am so happy I have all 3 books in this series because I am jumping right into the next one!
