The House of Flame and Shadow (Crescent City, #3) by Sarah J. Maas

House of Flame and Shadow (Crescent City, #3)House of Flame and Shadow by Sarah J. Maas
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Another winner from Sarah J. Maas! I have so enjoyed the Crescent series and this 3rd book is just awesome! At 900+ pages I finished in 3 days rooting for Bryce Quindlen & Hunt Althazar!
Lidia & Ruhn were kick ass as well. The plot, the settings, the world building, and the characters all made this a book I could not put down. Total suspense with the torture of Hunt & his friends filled me with horror. But what I enjoyed most was Bryce's certainty that she could figure things out. A must read!

Iron Flame (Empyrean, #2) by Rebecca Yarros

Iron Flame (The Empyrean, #2)Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

OMG did I love both Fourth Wing and Iron Flame!!! I became thoroughly invested in Violet and Xaden's story because after all they are the main focus in both books besides all the other tings going on in the plot. Without revealing anything about the ending; I am a reader who really enjoys redemptive endings. Xaden and Violet have had many ups and downs in their relationship (& in their lives)---I beg Rebecca Yarros to really think about the 3rd book in the series and Violet & Xaden's love. Please write a redemptive book that gives hope...Yes, these books were violent, yes there are many evil characters, but write some kind of magic that will give Violet & Xaden a lasting relationship with their dragons that is not about killing but finding the truth.

The Fragile Thread of Power (Threads of Power, #1) by V.E. Schwab

The Fragile Threads of Power (Threads of Power, #1)The Fragile Threads of Power by V.E. Schwab
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Awesomely Narrated by: Kate Reading, Marisa Calin, Michael Kramer, I loved this latest book by V.E. Schwab, the beginning of a series (which I totally love) but also includes characters from her other books, YAY!!! Returning to the worlds of her previous series, Shades of Magic, characters Delilah Bard, Kell Maresh, and the royal family from Red London are wrestling with Kell's loss of magic and his brother, the king has no magic but cannot be killed. Into this thrilling story line, the reader also meets Kosika, a young girl with powerful magic in White London who becomes Queen. I especially liked Tes, the tinkerer who can see magic---and if it is broken she can fix it. There is an enemy in Red London who wants to topple the king and his kingdom (known as The Hand). I could not stop listening to this 21 hour book!!! I can't wait for the 2nd in the series as the ending in Fragile stopped my heart!!!

Bloodmarked (Legendborn, #2) by Tracy Deonn

Bloodmarked (Legendborn, #2)Bloodmarked by Tracy Deonn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Such a great 2nd book in the Legendborn series! Bree is stressed to the max as she tries to rescue Nick, deal with Sel's changes, and fight the powers to be that want to keep secret the demon war. I could not put this book down, did not like the ending...so I NEED the 3rd book for the many questions I have--- for the many answers!!!! I hate Erebus and everyone in the Order as they seek to diminish Bree and her claim as Arthur's descendant with many powers- Medium, Bloodcrafter and Scion---but these powers do not always help her. I want Bree and her friends to be victorious in Book 3!

Amari and the Great Game (Supernatural Investigations, #2) by B.B. Alston

Amari and the Great Game (Supernatural Investigations, #2)Amari and the Great Game by B.B. Alston
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I did not LIKE this ending at all! I kept turning the pages but was so overwhelmed and chagrined with the evil that happened in this WHOLE book; I think B.B. Alston needs to re-think Book 3 if he is going to once again shatter the reader time and time again (like he does to Amari throughout this book!!!) with threatening war, challenges that are meant to sink, dangers that are motivated by the WORST bad characters, and finally decisions that work against the characters and plot---too too bleak---give the reader a MORE POSITIVE story in Book 3, this reader begs you...

The Okay Witch and the Hungry Shadow (The Okay Witch, #2) by Emma Steinkellner

The Okay Witch and the Hungry Shadow (The Okay Witch, #2)The Okay Witch and the Hungry Shadow by Emma Steinkellner
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved this 2nd middle grade graphic novel in the Okay Witch series and Steinkellner ensures the reader will laugh and hold their breath as Moth uses a cursed charm to try to battle the bullies in her school. I particularly liked her mom and teacher dating (hysterical) and the strong grandmother witch who preaches witch history and being strong---but Moth can't really listen and understand her words. I loved her friend Charlie and the talking cat, a great 2nd book, I want more!

A Stormy and Sultry Sea (Witches of the Island, #2)A Stormy and Sultry Sea by Katie McGarry
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved this 2nd book in the Witches of the Island series and now I can't wait til the 3rd and final book comes out. Cassie and Wren are caring for the demon queen baby and being watched over by demon god, Moloch. Cassie and Orion's romance sizzles and they have a very strong bond- but Orion's mother is against their romance. Will their romance be able to save the earth, the demon baby and the Fae queen----I could not stop turning the pages of this thriller!!!

Vespertine (Vespertine, #1) by Margaret Rogerson

Vespertine (Vespertine, #1)Vespertine by Margaret Rogerson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Awesomely narrated by Caitlin Davies; I loved this enthralling fantasy with Artemesia of Naimes, a socially crippled nun in training who would rather keep to herself than interact with others. When she unwittingly unleashes a revenant (yes Artemesia can hear and talk to spirits) her life as she knew is thrown into chaos. I loved the history, the too powerful Church's involvement, both good and evil, the spirits, and the characters---too many to name, but the Revenant was my favorite and the voice Caitlin Davies used was perfect and I loved the comedy it lent to this fast-paced thriller. I also loved Artemesia's roommate, and the gargantuan possessed soldier (his friends and captain shield him from the people's fear and hysteria) and the characters that seemed good but were evil or vice versa. Rogerson adeptly used magic, saints, evil, secrets, mysteries, and Artemesia's bravery to craft a rich historical fantasy I could not put down & can't wait for the next book in the series. I will be listening to the next book as well- Caitlin Davies was awesome with her compelling voices. YA readers will LOVE this book, highly recommended!

Elite (Hunter, #2) by Mercedes Lackey

Elite (Hunter, #2)Elite by Mercedes Lackey
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow this audiobook read by Amy Landon has me hooked! Now the Joy knows Ace (and others) is out to get her, she decides to become Elite where she will no longer have to care about ratings; she will be hunting with an Elite crew all the time---I really liked her new friends like Hammer, Steel and her romance with Josh hits bumps because the head of Psicore, Drift is doing some very unorthodox stuff to her teams and when they begin to turn up Joy is the one finding them! There is also a Folk Mage who seems to want to help her, what will Joy do? I can't wait for the 3rd book, Apex in this series!

Hunter (Hunter, #1) by Mercedes Lackey

Hunter (Hunter, #1)Hunter by Mercedes Lackey
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Awesomely narrated by Amy Landon this first in the series has Joya, a Hunter, telling the reader about her life as a hunter in her beloved mountains but then she is promoted to Apex, the bustling capital to keep track of the cits (citizens) and boy is life there different. I loved the many mythological creatures the hunters battle and it is apparent Joya is VERY good at her job. So good she garners enemies. Her uncle is the prefect and through a series of taps on her shoulder as she is introduced, Joya realizes all is not well in/at Apex and there are those who are out to get her and through her, her uncle. She meets and likes his assistant psimon Josh, and they begin to date. It was unnerving how Joya's mind never shuts off always looking for threats but she is right to do that as someone is trying to hurt her, could it be Ace the top Hunter? I loved her pack animals and the magic she and the animals wielded. I am already listening to the 2nd book in the series, Elite!

Paola Santiago and the Forest of Nightmares (Paola Santiago #2) by Tehlor Kay Mejia

Paola Santiago and the Forest of Nightmares (Paola Santiago #2)Paola Santiago and the Forest of Nightmares by Tehlor Kay Mejia
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Thank you to NetGalley and Disney Publishing Worldwide and Rick Riordan Presents for the advance reader copy, Paola Santiago and the Forest of Nightmares by Tehlor Kay Mejia in exchange for an honest review. This second in the Paola Santiago series was thrilling with heart pounding adventures for Paola, her nightmares now in a forest and it seems her father is involved somehow. Is this good or bad? My heart ached for Paola in this second book as she experienced friendship drama, mother and new boyfriend issues, and trusting her scientific mind over and above her new reality. As Paola is plunged into new nightmares, her best friend Dante seems to be angry with her all the time and won’t let her come over to his house and visit with his abuela. When Dante is at soccer practice she sneaks over and what happens sends shockwaves through her! Dante’s abuela addresses her as Maria (her mother!!!) and warns her against the bad men in her life. When his abuela passes out, Paola is devastated and reaches out to her friend, Emma, for help. I could not stop reading this suspenseful sequel that packs so many punches and psychological dilemmas for Paola as she revisits the missing boys and their leaders, monsters with green eyes and powers from the Highwayman that are beyond brutal. As Paola valiantly tries to wade through the mysteries, disappearing friends, and vanishing family, the reader will be plunged into her world of doubt, betrayal, lies, and mysteries. This is a must read, highly recommended for middle grade mystery lovers!

Wings of Ebony (Wings of Ebony, #1) by J. Elle

Wings of Ebony (Wings of Ebony, #1)Wings of Ebony by J. Elle
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Awesomely narrated by Bahni Turpin, I loved listening to all her voices and this pulse pounding story of Black teen, Rue, whose life is turned upside down when her mother is murdered. Her father who is a god wisks her away to his magic world Ghizon. Going back and forth from her short time in Ghizon to the present where all hell is breaking loose. Rue is never to go back and see her sister, Tasha but she sneaks back on the anniversary of her mother's death and when she touches her sister (which she should never do) her sister becomes a target. Now Rue must come to a decision on how to save her sister and neighborhood --can she use magic and her wits? I loved all the drama and Rue's doubts, allegiances, and smarts. I can't wait for Book 2!

Catywampus by Ash Van Otterloo

CattywampusCattywampus by Ash Van Otterloo
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I read this book with a title having a word 3 syllables or longer for #BitAboutBooks Spring Reading Challenge and oh did I enjoy it! With magic, witches, feuds, and a community that hates witches, Delpha McGill and Katybird Hearn have been warned and forbidden to use magic in Howler's Hollow. But magic is calling to both girls in feuding witch families--- Delpha finding her family's top secret book of hexes unleashes zombies from both families; Delpha and Katybird must quickly STOP the chaos. But what if the girls magic can't/won't work? I loved Van Otterloo's debut book for so many reasons--the writing is exciting, the characters are well drawn, but the magic, their friend Tyler, and Delpha's shed, better known as Puppet, steal the show! For a suspenseful spirited read, middle grade students will be sharing this thriller of magic, hexes, and zombies with their friends. Highly recommended!

The Rule of Wolves (King of Scars Duology Book 2) by Leigh Bardugo

Rule of Wolves (King of Scars Duology Book 2)Rule of Wolves by Leigh Bardugo
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I LOVE Leigh Bardugo's books (except when she killed off Matthias and destroyed Nina's world---I am still not over it) and this duology of Nikolai Lantsov (is he a bastard or is he the true king?) he summons all he can with his close knit crew creating machines, submersibles, etc as weapons for the greater good during war. He is aided by Zoya his general who also has a dragon inside her (like Nikolai has a demon inside him) who is a Grisha (StormWitch) and carries so much loss with her. Nina is glamored as Hanne's mentor and spying in Fjerda as the evil Strum keeps secret locations of kidnapped grisha doused in purem and also creates the monsters from Grisha that are fighting machines. I loved the slow burn in Nikolai's relationship with Zoya. Minor characters like David, Genya, Tamar, Alina, Kaz and his crew were integral to Nikola's vision! I loved the worlds in this book, the characters, and the suspenseful plot kept me glued to this book! Highly recommended!

An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson

An Enchantment of RavensAn Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I just love Julia Whelan narrated books and this YA magic/fantasy was a nail biter as Isobel, an artist who paints for the fair folk. She is in demand and her price is not money but enchantments to protect her family. Gadfly has been her patron for many years but informs her the Autumn Prince is coming to have his portrait painted. Little does she know she has already met him the day before in the forest as she was being pursued by a hellhound. While she is painting Rook, the Autumn King you feel the slow burn of their attraction and ease with each other. Once the painting is done and shipped to Rook, Isobel feels his absence even though humans and fair folk should never mix. Imagine her astonishment when an angry Rook summons her to a trial in the Autumn Court because she changed his portrait. But so much happens, the hellish adventure begins and there is fear constantly because they are being pursued...I loved this audiobook!
